The game was CHARGED UP™ presented by Haas. After the Kick-off, we reviewed rules as a team and brainstormed our weekly goals and priorities. By the end of build season, we thought the robot looked like a giraffe with its long arm. So, we named our robot "Melman."
Our first regional was Northern Lights in Duluth. Melman performed quite well, we were the first pick for the 7th alliance, captained by Team 7021 TC Robotics. Along with Team 7530 Brotherhood of Steel, we climbed our way to Round 5 Match 13 against the 2nd alliance. We played hard but lost 113-124. The regional was a great experience and our team was Rank 11 with a record of 10-4-0.
We finished in 6th place with a record of 12-5-0. We made it to the finals round of the playoffs and were again Regional Finalists!
The Iowa Regional was our next competition. Our team was Rank 15 with a record of 9-6-1. We were also quite excited when we won the Creativity Award sponsored by Rockwell Automation. Our team was the first pick of the 4th alliance. Team 9092 Tower Robotics was captain of the alliance and Team 2846 FireBears was our other partner. As an alliance, we made it to Round 5 Match 13 with a score of 129-134. Although we were five points away from the finals, we had an amazing time dancing and competiting!
CHARGED UP™ was the FIRST 2023 FRC game. The game involves two alliances, each consisting of three teams controlling robots to score the most points through placing cubes and cones on three power grids. In the final 30 seconds, teams rush to balance their robots on the charging station for additional points.
Fun Fact: All the FIRST games were Energize themed for the 2022-2023 season, centered around energy and sustainable development.
